Dana Harris, M.S. Special Education

Dana Harris's professional experience includes teaching special education students for ten years as well as teaching general education in the primary grades. She taught students with a variety of disabilities including specific learning disability, autism spectrum disorder, and emotional disturbance. After taking some time off from teaching so start a family, Dana realized that there was a great need for parents to obtain support and guidance from someone who is knowledgeable about the IEP process.  She wanted to be able to use her expertise and direct experience in the special education classroom  to support parents who were having difficulty in advocating for their own children.  Dana became a Special Education Advocate in order to work directly with those families in need of support. 

Her broad experience as a former educator gives her a unique perspective and expertise in guiding parents through a difficult and emotional process. Dana helps families to review educational assessments accurately , to draft and propose appropriate educational goals, and so insure placement in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). She also assist parents in gaining the appropriate variety of additional services such as social skills, counseling services, and assistive technology.

Dana Harris has been advocating and supporting families for the past eight years, expanding her skills in the art of collaborating with IEP teams while always supporting the best interest of the child. She is currently a member of  Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPPA), and Council of Exceptional Children (CEC). Dana is committed to working with families so that their children can receive the quality education and support they not only need, but are entitled to by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
